Sunday School funnies
I started volunteering at my church’s new campus when we opened in October in Kid’s Ministry. I LOVE it. It is so fun to hang out with 1st-4th graders and teach them about the Lord, sing crazy songs and get taught how to play games like Ants in the Pants and checkers. The boys love the fact that this girl has no clue what she is doing when it comes to putting those pieces on a checkerboard and trying to win. One week, my pastor’s son played me in checkers and literally could not stop laughing at my utter cluelessness! Another fun Sunday School pastime is trying to get 4th grade boys to crack a smile because they’re so cool. I’m pretty good at it…no big deal.
Today we were talking about Moses parting the Red Sea and how he and the Israelites had to trust God in their situation. We talked all about fear and how trusting in the Lord is be the best choice- “Fear takes flight when faith is firm!” I think they make these lessons for me sometimes because man o man…it was what I needed to hear! In my small group of four 1st and 2nd grade girls, I asked them what they’re afraid of or have a hard time trusting the Lord with. I got the typical answers…and then I shared my ‘fear’- finding a job. They were hilarious–SO quick to offer me suggestions: become a waitress, be our teacher forever, work at a store…but the best of all was, “I know, Miss Amy! Just have a little girl of your own that you can take care of…and that can be your job! A mom!” Oh did I just want to start laughing…but I held it in and thanked her for her suggestion. I wish life were just that simple…just have a kid and you’re set! Ha! oh the minds of 7 year olds.
Kids are so much fun and my life is so much richer by spending time with them. If you love kids…even just a little–get involved somehow at church with kids ministry, at school by mentoring or tutoring, babysit for a family, or go on a missions trip to love on some kiddos that need your love and the love of Christ so desperately…something! You won’t regret it.
